Steve Hofmeyr As a young man he was every American family’s model son: a Golden Gloves boxer, winner of a prestigious Atlantic Monthly collegiate short-story contest, and recipient of the coveted Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford University, England (1959).

His father was an Air Force general and forced a military life on Kris. After his study at Oxford, he joined the Air Force as a helicopter pilot for the United States Army, from 1960 – 1965.
